Savarona: Western Turkish Cuisine on the East Side

Savarona

This airy looking space is an artist rendering of Savarona, an upscale Turkish restaurant coming to 420 East 59th Street in March. Chef Tevfik Alparslan hails from Bolu, in the Northwestern part of the country, and according to the PR materials, his cuisine bears the Western influences of time spent with Gordon Ramsay. Expect lobster stuffed artichoke hearts, Wedding Soup, with roasted almonds, ginger and red beet foam, and aubergine stew topped with swordfish skewers. Let's just hope Alparslan hasn't picked up any personality traits from Ramsay, as well.

This place isn't even close. Walked by last night and the dining room is baron. Barely looks like they've done any work on the dining room. Very lucky if they're open by March. I say late April to mid June.
