MIA in Miami

Oh Miami, how I love thee. Recapping the Miami Winter Music Conference this year will be difficult. Every year New York represents at the conference by sending some of our most talented DJs, producers and electronic music aficionados to Miami. The conference promotes more than 100 different music events thrown by DJs, music producers and record labels. So, suffice to say, there was no time and too much to do.
I stuck to the simple motto, “No sleep till Brooklyn” and hit up as many events as possible with the intention of scoping out some fashionable Miamians and, of course, dance barefoot on the beach. I ran into more than just the locals--people from all over the world were there, Berlin, Montreal, Taipei and, yes, our beloved, New York. Stay tuned tomorrow for my post on Miami street fashion.
For New Yorkers thinking of escaping to beautiful Miami, check out my favorite spots:
- For drinks on the cheap (because Miami is not friendly on the wallet--$17 for one vodka-Red Bull!) check out Zekes for $3 imported beers.
- Wanna check out the latest and hottest swimwear fashions? Grab any of the yummy sandwiches at La Sandwicherie and hit up the beach one block down for the street runway.
- If you're looking to party at one of Miami's most banging dance clubs, take a cab downtown to the newly renovated Ultra Lounge. Outfitted with a pool, waterfalls, a running creek, and some of Miami's best dressed, Ultra Lounge is fast becoming one of Miami's most talked about night clubs.
- If you end up at conference next year, you will also have to drop in on some of the conference's best outdoor parties, including our very own BasicNYC party at the Beach Plaza Hotel and the Remix parties at the National Hotel.
All in all, what an amazing weekend, but boy, am I glad to get back to New York City and finally sleep. Till next year, Adios!
