Just Opened: The Dressing Room

Although everyone is playing up the "Whoa, a bar and boutique!" angle with the new bar/boutique The Dressing Room in the Lower East Side, I think the more interesting story is the fashion co-op system the store uses. Basically, 10 local designers have their own display space upstairs, and the roster rotates every four months. The array of styles is impressive: the absolutely wild street designs of New York Couture are neighbor to the simple, elegant designs of Voudoo.
The space itself isn't anything too fancy, which gives the boutique a friendly, laid-back feel. The bar area is awash in antique mirrors and throw pillows, which makes it the perfect setting for the romantic-comedy you have continuously running in your head. Downstairs is a cute collection of women's vintage, plus a small selection of old-school sneakers and vintage shirts for the men.
The clothing alone is reason enough to visit this shop—the bar should help when you realize how much stuff you just bought.
