Unionsquaremarket

1. 'Tis the season of holiday markets! Buy some fudge, hit the Bryant Park ice rink or find a unique gift from one NYC's many crafty holiday market vendors.

2. Is there anything better than devoting your Wednesday evening to shopping at The Gen Art Fashion Sale, drinking cocktails and getting your hair and nails done? No, unless of course you're watching Project Runway.

3. Forgo Sunday mass this weekend and check out the art show by the politicking British graffiti artist Banksy at the Vanina Holasek Gallery.

4. Sunday boasts an armload of crafts and art shows. Hit up the Dirt Cheap One Day Art Fair at the Stain bar in Williamsburg or the Astoria Craft Collective Holiday Show at the Waltz Astoria.

5. Wanna have a chat with Bruno Frisoni, the brains behind the famous design house that created the stiletto heel? Hit up the Q&A with the Roger Vivier genius tonight at the French Institute.

Name: Ajiri
Lives: Brooklyn Heights (Soon leaving for Paris)
Occupation: Freelance fashion editor/Grad student

What fashion magazines have you written for? I just wrote a piece on skirts for New York Look magazine.

Only a few people can pull off shorts in the winter. Tell me about your outfit? The shorts are Alberta Ferritti, the sweater is from Givenchy, the tights are from American Apparel, and the shoes are Dolce Vita.

What are some of your favorite shops? Anywhere that carries Thakoon, Dries Van Noten, Balenciaga and Lanvin, but for vintage jewerly j'adore the vintage shop Legacy in Soho.

Do you have any favorite NYC restaurants? The French restaurant, Le Bilboquet, is wonderful!

Crazy For Booties

When you think about booties it may conjure up the little knitted numbers Aunt Suzy made for you before you could spit out the words "fashion faux pas" or maybe those old house slippers gathering dustballs underneath your bed. Withhold the "fashion don't" for just a sec, because I'm talking about the booties with the dreamy heel and leather detailing minus the Minnetonka fringe (no offense to our hippie contingent) and Ugg label. You've probably heard them called ankle boots, but isn't bootie a better word? Check out my favorite booties for the season and be sure to pick up those cutesy lace Shirley Temple ankle socks to go with them. (BCB Girls $133.95, Frye Boots $251.95, Miss Sixty $253.95 and Lumiani $219.95)

The Season's Hottest Winter Coats

Elizabeth_charles_blog

As the leaves and outdoor seating disappear from the city, it's time to face a hard truth--you are going to be wearing a winter coat every day for the next three or four months. You don't have to settle for the same generic pea coat seen all over the streets of Midtown. This Mala Brajkovic coat (above) from Elizabeth Charles has a fun, feminine look to it, just one of many attractive coats from Aussie or Kiwi designers at this West Village boutique.

Some other good options? A.P.C. is a great place for chic, alpaca fur-trimmed coats for men and women, while Tokio7's consignment collection means big-name designers for low prices. Check out all of our winter coat suggestions in our "Winter Wear" feature.

Klimt At The Neue Gallery

You can't look at a Gustav Klimt painting without feeling mesmerized by the mythical women adorned in shimmery frocks and geometric prints. With the holiday party dress season approaching I needed a bit of fashion inspiration. Thankfully, the Neue Gallery's acquisition of the $135 million Adele Bloch-Bauer Portrait I (painting, top) has motivated an exhibition showcasing the Klimt collection owned by Ronald S. Lauder and Serge Sabarsky. The exhibit features eight paintings, the re-created interior of Klimt's art studio, and some of his personal belongings including his painting smock, photographs and more than 120 sketches.  You'll leave the exhibit longing for a gold-sequined number. For a great hoilday gift, pick up Christian Brandstatter's Klimt and Fashion book in the gift shop.

Black Friday Sales

Citysearch has features on where to reserve a table during Thanksgiving, where to find prime ingredients for a delicious turkey dinner, and even where to get tanked on Wednesday night.

But now it's time to get to the most important part of Thanksgiving--the shopping. Black Friday is a day when people get up at the crack of dawn and shove each other out of the way for big savings. This year, as in many years past, the Black Friday sale at the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets is the big event. Doors to the 220 stores open at midnight for savings of 25 to 65 percent off.

Besides the big sales at places like Best Buy and Macy's, there are also some great smaller sales at boutiques like Oak and Jill Stuart. Check out all of the Black Friday sales right here
