At long last, 1Oak, the latest venture from Butter's Richie Akiva and Scott Sartiano, prepares to open its doors at 453 West 17th Street, supposedly in just "two or three weeks," according the construction worker I spoke to this afternoon. Translation: Roughly four to six weeks from now, look for crowds to start flocking to yet another new Chelsea hot spot, the inside of which many may not actually see. With the Maritime, Hiro and the Cabanas just down the block, and The Park and Earth NYC just around the corner, let's all hope that West 17th Street isn't about to become the new West 27th Street club row.

Got beef with Butter / Akiva / Sartiano / the prospect of another upscale club attracting unsavory characters into your backyard? Then here's your chance to say so: Tonight at 6pm, join the community board in the basement of Holland House, where a hearing will determine whether 1Oak gets the liquor license it seeks, or gets cock-blocked, Ivan Kane-style.
