Tribeca Film Festival "Industry Party" Tonight at Mansion

Mansiontribeca

Finally, an event where you don't need an official festival pass to party in honor of the Tribeca Film Festival. Our friends over at the Bloc Group are hosting the official after-party tonight for the TFF filmmaker/industry event at The Manse. No specific names (other than celebrity DJ Graham Funke) are mentioned on the invite, but "movie moguls, film industry insiders, performances and revelry into the late hours" sounds OK to me. Doors at midnight, and don't forget to RSVP.**

**We can't guarantee that RSVP'ing will get you in, and if you wouldn't be able to flex your way into Mansion on a regular night, don't expect to breeze past the doormen tonight. But as always, arriving with a harem of hot girls and a willingness to drop cash certainly won't hurt your chances of getting in.

Watch the NFL Draft at Southern Hospitality with Giants Player Shaun O'Hara

Personally, the only draft I care about is the kind that's served in a glass, but football fans might be interested to know that this Saturday afternoon, Southern Hospitality will be throwing a special event to celebrate the NFL draft. Free and open to the public, the pre-draft show kicks off at 11am, with live coverage of the draft itself starting at 3pm. Giants center Shaun O'Hara will be making a special guest appearance, so you can congratulate him in person for the team's  recent Superbowl victory, then go sample some down-home Southern grub prepared by SoHo's new executive chef, Dr. BBQ, and take advantage of draft beer specials all day.**

**Get it? draft beer for the NFL draft? It's a lot funnier when you're as drunk as I am right now.

Vino-Versity Class at Divine Bar Tonight

Simplicitywineglasss12
If you're like me, right now you're probably sitting in your cubicle, going crazy, wishing it was 6pm on a Friday so you could leave your godforsaken office immediately, and expedite your standing plans to drown your sorrows in a tall glass of Scotch. So it's particularly unfortunate when you discover, as I just did, that in fact it's only 4:45pm on a Tuesday.

But if I was attending tonight's Greek-themed Vino-Versity class at Divine Bar West, maybe I wouldn't need to be talked down off the ledge. The event, which runs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, is described thus:

A wine tasting forum designed to teach the novice to advanced wine enthusiast how to enjoy and decipher the intricacies of wine. Taste over 24 incredible wines, from whites to reds to late harvest desserts, from Macedonia, Peloponnese, Santorini, and Crete, among others ... A fabulous buffet of Mediterranean specialties, including stuffed grape leaves, roasted lamb and garlic tartlets, lemon-feta spread, and spanakopita, plus olives, tapenades and cheeses, will transport you right to Greece. Aside from tasting, you’ll learn fabulous wine facts and tidbits, such as how to pronounce the major red grape, Agiorgitiko, by saying "Ahhhhh, your Yittiko is showing!"

Tickets may still be available, but call Divine Bar ASAP to find out. Admission will cost you $38 in advance, or $48 at the door if it's not sold out. And if you can't make it tonight, don't sweat it--apparently this is a weekly event, which means that while Tuesdays may never be the new Fridays, they just might turn out to be the new Thursdays.

YRB Magazine Issue Release Party Tonight at Runway

Yrb_mag_party

The last time we told you about a party at Runway, it was being thrown by Mob Candy magazine, and after an Imbible reader gave us an account of her experience at the event in a post we called Getting Whacked at the Mob Candy Party, the comment boards made me want to hire a bodyguard.

This time around, YRB Magazine is hosting a release party for its Spring Fashion issue at the club--and since I used to work there (at the mag, not the bar), hopefully none of them are inclined to put a hit out on me. The party starts tonight at 9pm, with an open bar 'til 11pm, and the festivities carrying on until 2am (though based on my previous experience with YRB issue release parties, 2am probably means 4am). Lenny Kravitz graces the issue cover, with features on Lil' Wayne, Panic! at the Disco, Taryn Manning, Rick Ross and more--though no word on whether any of them will actually be in attendance. But last time, cover stars Gym Class Heroes showed up, so you never know.

Make sure you RSVP, and don't forget to scoop a giftbag on your way out.

March Madness: Team By Team Bar Map

March_madness_map

Just in time for March Madness, a new site called Mapfaced is offering an indispensable tool that matches bars with sports teams, allowing fans to know exactly where to find like-minded fans. As of now, 33 teams are represented on the map (which is currently in beta), though the same bars appear multiple times, with Proof and Village Pourhouse appearing most often. But who cares? With this many games and no guess-work about where to watch them, you've got lots of opportunities to participate in the great American pastime of getting belligerently drunk. Oh, and also watching basketball on large, flat-screen televisions.

Get Lucky: St. Patrick's Day Mayhem

Guinness_st_pats_day

If you're one of the poor schmucks who has to work today, by 6pm you're going to need to freebase a bottle of scotch--and not just because it's Monday. Today is that holiest of all holidays: March 17, aka, St. Patrick's Day, and we've compiled a list of the city's best Irish bars so you can toast the patron saint until the wee hours of the morn and worry about the hangover later (just like a true Irishman). And if you don't own any festive St. Paddy's Day clothing, don't worry--chase a few shots of Guinness with a few pints of Jameson and you'll turn green anyway.

Weekend Planner: Kim Kardashian at Room Service Tonight, St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl on Saturday, and Lots More to Do

by Justine Goodman

Kim_kardashian_invite

Kim Kardashian will host a party tonight at Room Service to celebrate the season premiere of her E! reality show, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." We're told that bottle service is highly recommended, "if you want to party next to the perennial party girl."

Looking for something to do this weekend that's lower on the maintenance, higher on the heavy boozing? How about the 10th annual St. Patty's Day pub crawl. Thirty bars all across the city are participating in this year's event by offering $1 Bud Light drafts and $2 well drinks to all crawlers. The festivities commence on Saturday at noon and resume on Monday at 5pm--which means you'll have ample time to celebrate St. Patrick's Day before you get fired on Tuesday for coming to work drunk. Again.

If you're not interested in an organized pub crawl but you do want to get drunk on Monday, consult our official guide to St. Patrick's Day. And finally, for more things to do, check out our weekly Hot List of events. No, seriously--check it out. If I have to update it every day, the least you can do is feign interest.

Grand Opening Preview of Prime Nightclub this Friday, March 7

Prime_2
Back in early January, we reported that Retox Rock Bar/ Myst would be closing for "two weeks of renovations," as per a flyer for the final night 's party (which, as it happens, was DJ'd by attempted-murderer Amy "L.I. Lolita" Fisher). Well, predictably, two months later, Retox/ Myst is now a new club called Prime. We just received the above from our friends at the Bloc Group to the club's grand opening preview, and the debut of Primetime Fridays, a new party that we presume will henceforth take place on a weekly basis.

Just in case one mammoth super-club isn't enough for you, Prime is conveniently located on West 28th Street, the same block as 10 other mammoth super-clubs--including the just-opened New York outpost of the popular Miami club Mansion, and the new bottles-o-sake spot, Suzie Wong, just around the corner--so when the mob scene at Prime grows tiresome, rest assured that there are plenty of other mob scenes to sample.

Despite the "invitation," there's no real way to guarantee you'll get in (short of befriending Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, or someone else who actually has some clout). But your best bet is to try RSVP'ing for a table, and then bring a lot of cash, a harem of models, and hope for the best.

Belated Party Celebrates End of the Writers Strike--This Thursday at Plumm

Plumm

Writers are expert procrastinators, so it comes as no surprise that they decided to wait a few weeks to throw a party in honor of the end of the Writers Guild strike. Nevertheless, I think we can all agree that the strike isn't officially over until I get some free booze, even if I have to go to Plumm to get it.

Black Out on Leap Day; Wake Up Four Years Later

Village_pourhouse

Are you losing sleep over why it's still February? So am I, or at least I would be, if I had any curiosity about the inner workings of the Gregorian Calendar. Nevertheless, as everyone knows, every four years we tack an extra day onto February--which the crack team over at NASA describes as "relatively rare," as if a Leap Day is an unusual strain of a deadly virus, rather than something that has taken place every four years since 46 B.C.--and today is that day.

So, in keeping with its tendency to use anything, no matter how banal, as an excuse to throw a party and get people wasted, the Village Pourhouse is celebrating Leap Day with, um, a party where people are gonna get wasted. Specifically, for those born on February 29, this is your chance to celebrate your birthday (on the actual anniversary of your birth) with free beer, and a bunch of activities that probably don't matter as much as the part about free beer:

After four long years of waiting, it is finally time! Calling Leap Year Babies everywhere! Embrace your inner-child and come down to the Village Pourhouse for a birthday party right out of your childhood dreams. Whether it is your sixth, seventh, or eighth, this will be a birthday to remember. There will be bright balloons, fun decorations, delicious cake, and boisterous activities to bring you way back. Don’t miss out on our Pin-the-Tail-on-the Donkey. Be sure to take a big swing at our piñata filled with adult favorites such as drink tickets and free bar tabs at the Village Pourhouse. If you show proof you are an actual leap year baby, you will drink free Bud and Bud Light from 7-9pm.

So, to all the Leap Day babies, head to 11th Street & Third Avenue tonight at 6:59pm to take full advantage of the festivities, and to meet a bunch of bat-wielding, piñata-breaking, 7-year-old drunks.

And if that doesn't appeal to you, check back soon--I can't even imagine what the Pourhouse has planned for Daylight Savings next weekend.
