Tribeca Film Festival "Industry Party" Tonight at Mansion

Mansiontribeca

Finally, an event where you don't need an official festival pass to party in honor of the Tribeca Film Festival. Our friends over at the Bloc Group are hosting the official after-party tonight for the TFF filmmaker/industry event at The Manse. No specific names (other than celebrity DJ Graham Funke) are mentioned on the invite, but "movie moguls, film industry insiders, performances and revelry into the late hours" sounds OK to me. Doors at midnight, and don't forget to RSVP.**

**We can't guarantee that RSVP'ing will get you in, and if you wouldn't be able to flex your way into Mansion on a regular night, don't expect to breeze past the doormen tonight. But as always, arriving with a harem of hot girls and a willingness to drop cash certainly won't hurt your chances of getting in.

New Review Fridays: Suzie Wong

Susiewong_1

After a near-week-long hiatus, I'm back from spring break--sorry for the lack of blogging, but rest assured I won't be getting any more time off for a long, long time, which means new posts every day.

First up, New Review Fridays. This week, we review Suzie Wong, the new West Chel hot spot where flavored sake is the new Grey Goose of bottle service.

Hits: Fruit-infused sake choices include mandarin orange, pear, peach, cranberry, raspberry and blueberry.

Misses: With a maximum occupancy of just 350, only varsity A-listers make the final cut at the door, and about a third of those head straight to the VIP room, cut off from the main space by a curtain of dangling beads.

Read our full review of Suzie Wong, and then peruse other New and Notable bar reviews, or check out our list of spots that are too new to review (but not too new to get you wasted).

YRB Magazine Issue Release Party Tonight at Runway

Yrb_mag_party

The last time we told you about a party at Runway, it was being thrown by Mob Candy magazine, and after an Imbible reader gave us an account of her experience at the event in a post we called Getting Whacked at the Mob Candy Party, the comment boards made me want to hire a bodyguard.

This time around, YRB Magazine is hosting a release party for its Spring Fashion issue at the club--and since I used to work there (at the mag, not the bar), hopefully none of them are inclined to put a hit out on me. The party starts tonight at 9pm, with an open bar 'til 11pm, and the festivities carrying on until 2am (though based on my previous experience with YRB issue release parties, 2am probably means 4am). Lenny Kravitz graces the issue cover, with features on Lil' Wayne, Panic! at the Disco, Taryn Manning, Rick Ross and more--though no word on whether any of them will actually be in attendance. But last time, cover stars Gym Class Heroes showed up, so you never know.

Make sure you RSVP, and don't forget to scoop a giftbag on your way out.

New Review Fridays: Mansion

Mansion

Mansionnew_york__0211

This week we review Mansion, the New York outpost of the Miami mega-club that recently opened in the Chelsea space formerly known as Crobar.

Amongst the mammoth club's main attractions is the so-called Cougar Room--a private area with its own bar reserved exclusively for women, which features on-site makeup artists, hair stylists and a variety of sex toys. Seriously. Tables run anywhere from $200 to $2,000, and there's even a $5,000 bottle of bubbly (though personally, if I were going to drop five grand on a bottle of booze, it had better be gold-plated and make me hallucinate).

Read our full editorial review of the 'Manse, then peruse other New and Notable bar reviews or check out our list of spots that are too new to review (but not too new to get you hammered).

Weekend Planner: Kim Kardashian at Room Service Tonight, St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl on Saturday, and Lots More to Do

Kim Kardashian will host a party tonight at Room Service to celebrate the season premiere of her E! reality show, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." We're told that bottle service is highly recommended, "if you want to party next to the perennial party girl."

Looking for something to do this weekend that's lower on the maintenance, higher on the heavy boozing? How about the 10th annual St. Patty's Day pub crawl. Thirty bars all across the city are participating in this year's event by offering $1 Bud Light drafts and $2 well drinks to all crawlers. The festivities commence on Saturday at noon and resume on Monday at 5pm--which means you'll have ample time to celebrate St. Patrick's Day before you get fired on Tuesday for coming to work drunk. Again.

If you're not interested in an organized pub crawl but you do want to get drunk on Monday, consult our official guide to St. Patrick's Day. And finally, for more things to do, check out our weekly Hot List of events. No, seriously--check it out. If I have to update it every day, the least you can do is feign interest.

Grand Opening Preview of Prime Nightclub this Friday, March 7

Prime_2
Back in early January, we reported that Retox Rock Bar/ Myst would be closing for "two weeks of renovations," as per a flyer for the final night 's party (which, as it happens, was DJ'd by attempted-murderer Amy "L.I. Lolita" Fisher). Well, predictably, two months later, Retox/ Myst is now a new club called Prime. We just received the above from our friends at the Bloc Group to the club's grand opening preview, and the debut of Primetime Fridays, a new party that we presume will henceforth take place on a weekly basis.

Just in case one mammoth super-club isn't enough for you, Prime is conveniently located on West 28th Street, the same block as 10 other mammoth super-clubs--including the just-opened New York outpost of the popular Miami club Mansion, and the new bottles-o-sake spot, Suzie Wong, just around the corner--so when the mob scene at Prime grows tiresome, rest assured that there are plenty of other mob scenes to sample.

Despite the "invitation," there's no real way to guarantee you'll get in (short of befriending Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, or someone else who actually has some clout). But your best bet is to try RSVP'ing for a table, and then bring a lot of cash, a harem of models, and hope for the best.

In The News: submercer Closed, Beatrice Inn Heads Down the Shore, More

Martinislug submercer (the lower level lounge at the Mercer Hotel) was reportedly closed (again) on Saturday night by the FDNY, this time indefinitely. Eater

Martinislug_2 Beatrice Inn, Dirty Jers style? Word on the street is that the Chelsea Hotel in Atlantic City has tapped Paul Sevigny and Matt Abramcyk of the beloved Beatrice Inn to oversee the hotel's new nightclub. Down By the Hipster

Martinislug_3 NY Magazine's Best of NY double issue is out this week, but no one cares--give us more Lindsay Lohan, dammit. New York Mag

Martinislug_4 Think that ID scanner just prevents 19-year-old jailbait from getting into Cain? Think again--it also records your information, which means that now if you stab someone outside a club you'd better get your alibi straight, because the coppers are coming. NY Post

The junior Simpson sister will celebrate the release of her new album, "Bittersweet World," with a party tomorrow night at Marquee. According to the flyer, Ashlee will also be lip-syncing performing live.

If for some reason you want to attend this event, don't forget to RSVP.

Mansion Now Open for "Private Parties" in Old Crobar Space; Official Opening Next Thursday

Fashion week is upon us, and with it, a fashionable newcomer to the disaster that is Club Row in West Chelsea.

I wasn't actually invited to this week's opening of the Mansion "ultra lounge"--something I won't soon forget--but I did receive what I would characterize as an overdone opening announcement, via snail mail this morning.

Nevertheless, as per the press release and the recording on the club's phone, the New York outpost of the Manse (which has long been an active player in nightlife at its original Miami location) is now open for "private parties" and will officially open to the bottle-buying public on Valentine's Day. So, rather than confining yourself to the embarrassingly limited selection of clubs on West 27th Street (you know, like Pink Elephant, Marquee, Cain, Home/Guest House and Bungalow 8), you can now branch out--all the way to West 28th Street.

Owners of Stereo to Take Over Canal Room?

Last Thursday--after previous reports that a recent shooting in front of Chelsea hot spot Stereo had forced its temporary closure--Page Six ran the following item:

January 31, 2008 -- SHUTTERED hot spot Stereo has spun its last. Page Six has learned the West 29th Street club, which was closed by police this month, will not reopen at its current location. An insider said, "The NYPD allowed the club to reopen, but the landlord bought them out of their lease." Club trademark owner Michael Satsky and partner Brian Gefter split from other club partners and are close to leasing a downtown space for a new venue this year.

Well, we've received a tip that said "downtown space" is actually the club currently known as Canal Room. Though no one at either club could be reached for comment, our information comes directly from a reliable source in the nightlife industry, and was also independently confirmed by the owner of another unnamed Soho hot spot.

UPDATE: We've now heard directly from the owners of both clubs, who deny that Stereo is buying Canal Room. Read the latest here.
