The Tribeca Film Festival will go out with a bang at the red carpet world premiere of "Speed Racer," but there's still plenty to do between now and then if you're around for the weekend.

Various screenings and panel discussions will continue through Sunday, and in some cases tickets may still be available. For a complete schedule and to buy tickets, click here.

For a rundown of other events, we've got you covered ...

FRIDAY, MAY 2
It's the last day of the Tribeca/ASCAP music lounge at Canal Room, an ongoing series open to festival badge-holders, members of the industry, filmmakers, and selected members of the press. If you fall into any of those categories, head over this afternoon in between screenings to catch one or more of the following sets:

2:30-3:00 Anya Marina
3:00-3:30 Meaghan Smith
3:40-4:10 Rachael Yamagata
4:20-4:50 Joseph Arthur
5:00-5:30 Sixpence None The Richer

In other TFF music news, Webster Hall will host the Breaking the Band concert event tonight, with live performances by The Hold Steady, the Virgins, Republic Tigers and Bad Veins. Celebrity arrivals begin at 6pm.

SATURDAY, MAY 3

The Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair kicks off tomorrow morning on Harrison Street (between Greenwich Street and West Street). More than 30 Tribeca eateries, merchants and local organizations will line the streets, while a main stage showcases live performances from several Broadway musicals ("Legally Blonde," "Grease" and "Xanadu"), plus the New American Youth Ballet and the PS 150 Youth Singers. A variety of other local dance troupes, puppeteers and other performance groups will also appear. The street fair is free and open to the public.

In honor of TFF's Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day, the U.S. Tennis Association will set up two short courts and a quick serve cage for young aspiring tennis players, all on the streets of Tribeca (at N. Moore between Greenwich and West). ESPN’s Play Your Way youth fitness outreach program will be in attendance to "inspire kids to be physically active by teaching them to make up their own games and encourage creative recreational play" (per the press release). And there's more: the New York Rangers and New York Knicks get in on the action for the first time this year--though whether the Knicks actually qualify as a sports team is another question altogether. The New York Jets will also be on N. Moore Street, holding something called “Generation Jets Fest”--a "football themepark filled with obstacles and tests of skill such as the quarterback challenge and touchdown run."

And, finally, "Speed Racer" will be revealed to the world on Saturday evening at BMCC/TPAC (199 Chambers Street), with red carpet arrivals commencing at 5:45pm. Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon, Emile Hirsch, John Goodman and Joel Silver are all expected to attend, so wear your finest stalkerazzi get-up and your digi-cam, and head over early to get a good view of the celebs.

Get Your Swagger On with Mickey "MeMpHiTz" Wright

Memphitz_3

Meet Mickey "MeMpHiTz" Wright, Vice President of Jive A&R, the new face of P. Diddy's latest Sean John ad campaign, and the man responsible for signing T-Pain, J-Kwon and other superstars to the Jive label. With so much on his plate, 2008 is shaping up to be a year of big things for the young record exec, so when we were approached about giving him the opportunity to reach our readers, we were happy to oblige. Read on for MeMpHiTz's list of his favorite spots to get his swagger on in NYC, in his own words ...

CLUBS

Corio
Last summer my boy Ant Rich did a weekly party at Corio (this is where I discovered DJ Love on the Run), and I never missed it. Those were some of my most memorable Summer ’07 nights! It’s the perfect place for a chill vibe with great music. Don’t let the small space fool you though; we got it popping in there! The running burlesque show in between DJ sets is legendary.

GoldBar
Besides the specialty drinks that get right quickly, the room is incredibly fly, the music is always upbeat, and the women dancing to the tunes are some of New York’s finest. Also, the décor is second to none as far as clubs go.

Soho House
The only place in New York where you can have glass of wine from an award-winning selection, order some food at the bar, take the food to a screening room and watch a pre-screening, then go to a rooftop for some more drinks and pool time. It’s a members only club, but Ant Rich (who is a founding member) always takes care of me.

The Box
Anyone who knows Memphitz knows that I am a HUGE fan of outright outrageousness. The Box falls nothing short of that. The cabaret-style performance coupled with the exclusivity at the door makes for the type of nightlife experience you can only get in New York.

Love
Every Thursday I go to Love and watch Q-Tip, Kid Capri, DJ Premiere, and other legendary DJs put it down. They remind me of when I originally fell in love with hip-hop and why I got into this business in the first place.

In The News: Writers Strike Over, Music Venues Struggling, Sweeps Week (Obama Edition), and More

Martinislug The reasons why we're thankful the WGA finally made a deal to end the writers' strike are plentiful, but it seems it could not have gone on much longer without someone attempting to assassinate Jay Leno, after Larry the Cable Guy appeared on two consecutive new episodes of "The Tonight Show" this week. And that's about 10 too many "incest in a Wal-Mart" jokes for me." L.A. Times

Martinislug_2 After last year's closure of CBGB's, many of the city's rock music venues are having trouble staying afloat.  NY Observer

Martinislug_3 A new city law will require local eateries to begin posting the calorie contents of their drinks. Why anyone would waste time with a chocolate martini when there's a perfectly good bottle of scotch on the menu is beyond me, but why said martini-drinker would want to know about the 440 liquid calories is a mystery for the ages. NY Post

Martinislug_4 Obama is kicking ass and taking names--including the name "David Wilhelm," who was Bill Clinton's campaign chair in 1992. Wilhelm told the New York Times today that he believes Obama is more electable than Hillary: "He has out-worked her, out-organized her and out-raised her," he said. New York Times Political Blog

Martinislug_5 Elsewhere, some people wondered whether Chris Matthews wasn't ever-so-slightly homosexual, after he commented that upon hearing Obama speak, "I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often." We're sure you don't, Chris, but that doesn't mean you should talk about it on television. NewsBusters

Malibu Winter Beach Bash at Terminal 5 Tonight

Malibuwbb_evite_1_24

It may be frigid outside, but Malibu wants to warm you up at their Winter Beach Bash event, tonight at Terminal 5. Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead drinking Malibu anywhere that isn't poolside, preferably in the tropics--unless of course it's free, in which case there's nothing I wouldn't drink. And the complimentary Malibu cocktails are just one reason to hit up T5 tonight--the fact that Dim Mak founder Steve Aoki will be holding court in the DJ booth is another. And if all else fails, there's always the free hors d'oeuvres.

Don't forget to RSVP.

Celeb-Rated: Sia Tells Us Her Favorite Bicoastal Hangouts

by Justine Goodman

Sia_courtesy_of_time_out

I picked up several habits whilst living in Paris after college (what, with its close proximity to Amsterdam and what not), most of which I'd probably prefer not to discuss here (or ever again). One exception: the music of Zero 7, the U.K. duo whose sexy, Radiohead-esque sound captured Europeans long before American audiences caught on, thanks in part to the popularity of the "Garden State" soundtrack, which featured the band's "In The Waiting Line" anthem.

Where am I going with this? Well, we had the chance to chat with Sia Furler, whose name you may not know, but whose dreamy voice laces many of the Zero 7 songs you have (or should) come to know and love. Her new solo album, "Some People Have Real Problems," drops tomorrow, and next month she'll embark on a month-long tour of major U.S. cities. So, before she gets too famous to waste time with us, we took the opportunity to ask about her favorite destinations on both the East and West coast for food, booze and atmosphere. Here's what she had to say--including where she goes to dance with hot gay boys.

Sex Tape Star / L.I. Lolita / DJ Amy Fisher at Retox Rock Bar Tonight

Myst_closing_flyer Amy_fisher_lou_bellera

Remember when Long Island mechanic Joey Buttofuoco's 17-year-old mistress Amy Fisher famously shot his wife Mary Jo in the head? Well, Mary Jo survived, but Amy spent seven years in prison, and yadda, yadda, yadda, now she's a "writer" with her very own homemade sex tape, which co-stars her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Lou Bellera (who looks like the mafia's answer to Steven Segal), above. Apparently Amy also fancies herself a DJ, and tonight, she'll celebrate her amateur porn debut by performing at Myst/Retox Rock Bar, which will be closing tomorrow for two weeks of renovations. And what of several earlier reports, that Bellera sold the tape without Amy's permission after filing for divorce, and that she's "disgusted" by it? Yeah, right--just like Paris Hilton was "outraged" all the way to the bank.

Tonight will be Fisher's first time DJ'ing so we can't be sure, but we think it's safe to say she won't be the next big thing in music. As for the world of sex tapes, it seems we're not so lucky: According to the press release we received this morning, the tape is currently "The No. 1 videotape in the country." Seeing as how the only other thing the notorious "Long Island Lolita" knows how to do is shoot people in the head without even killing them, it's good to know she has, uh, something to fall back on.

John Legend's Private Birthday Bash Tonight 12/28/07 at The Plumm

Johnlegend_2

If you've been in an NYC taxi with a video screen in the last few weeks, perhaps you've seen the ABC segment that features the Bloc Group's Matthew Isaacs and Jordan Harris, up-and-coming party promoters extraordinaire. Now you'll have the chance to see the fruits of their labor at The Plumm, where they'll host a private event tonight to celebrate the 29th anniversary of John Legend's birth. Music will be provided by Macy Gray and Funkmaster Flex,  and we're told a duet performance by John and Macy is "extremely likely." Other celebs slated to attend include Kanye West, Kirsten Dunst, and actor/Plumm co-owner Jesse Bradford. And don't worry about running off to see Jacob the Jeweler, because John doesn't want gifts. Instead, he'd like you to make a donation to the Show Me Campaign, a charity he founded to combat poverty in Ghana. Either way, don't forget to RSVP, and even if you're planning to buy bottles I suggest arriving early--in a crowd of Black Card holders, no one is going to impressed by your AMEX Gold.

dGi Management Party at Beatrice Inn: Hot Hipsters Celebrate the Birth of Christ with Free Champagne

Beatrice_inn_001

Last night I had the pleasure of attending dGi Management's holiday party at the Beatrice Inn (dGi reps Paul Sevigny, Beatrice owner/DJ/Chloe's bro), where a crowd of mostly-hot hipsters, industry types and a slew of celebrity DJs sipped complimentary champagne and vodka drinks. Not surprisingly, among the highlights of my visit to the shabby-chic hot spot du jour: complimentary champagne and vodka drinks. Also enjoyable was a set by the MisShapes, and chatting with DJ Berrie (who had just flown in from Vegas, where he mans the booth at a weekly party at Tao Las Vegas) and the ever-charming DJ Cassidy, who worked a room full of adoring females with the same level of expertise he displays on the turntables. (Though last night, he skipped his own scheduled set, saying that "he was trying to have fun," and jokingly adding, "don't tell my manager.") In fact, the only downside of the evening was when I learned that perhaps I should have stayed at the Touch nightclub opening last Thursday a bit longer than I did: DJ Cassidy (who also performed there that night), informed me that Snoop Dogg spontaneously jumped up on stage and performed with Rev Run, evidently after I had already departed. And where was I? At the dinner from hell at Grayz around the corner. So ... that's awesome.
